Name/Work Name: Asriel Dreemurr / Isol
Canon: Undertale
Canon Point: Post True/Good End
AU/CRAU: N/A
Age: Eight.
History: Boop!
Personality:

It’s no secret that Asriel is a crybaby. Then again, that may not exactly be a fair assessment.

Underneath his fragile exterior and tendency for tears, Asriel carries great inner strength. His defining moment within Undertale is when he chooses to use the souls of every monster collected within him to shatter the barrier keeping them trapped in the Underground, and then release those souls back to where they belong. This means abandoning himself to the fate of once again becoming a soulless flower, but he doesn’t even consider an alternative if it means everyone else will be safe and happy. This more than anything reflects Asriel’s sense of duty and tendency to put others before himself. Most of all, he wants his friends to be safe.

Once he warms up to someone, Asriel can be a cuddly bundle of fun. Past his initial shyness is a side of Asriel dedicated entirely to puns, pranks and those special kinds of mischief only kids can get into. (He is very good at lying, but not malicious, and wouldn't dream of doing it to hurt anyone.) However, if you betray his trust, he’ll remember it. That’s not to say he won’t forgive- Asriel is very forgiving. It’s just that in the future, maybe you won’t hold quite so much of his trust. In fact, Asriel is good at learning from the past in general.

What he’s not so good at is cutting ties. Asriel’s family is extremely important to him. That is to say, not just his blood family, but anyone he feels strong familial ties with or cares about a whole lot. Regardless of if it may be healthier for him, he won’t abandon or give up on someone. This stubbornness extends elsewhere, too, with Asriel refusing to change his mind about staying in the ruins to tend the flowers. Once he’s made a decision, it’s hard to change his mind.

Asriel is also burdened with a far larger dollop of self-doubt than your average eight year old. He supplies equal amounts of encouragement and support to other people, as he unloads pressure and guilt onto himself.

Debt: It didn’t take much to convince Asriel that it was in his best interest- or rather, in the best interests of others- to work for the witch. She shared with him the fact that Frisk was already working hard to ensure that the future remained safe for all the monsters of the underground- that everyone got a happy ending, and the resets stopped. Knowing this, Asriel felt it was his responsibility, after everything he’d done, to help make sure this wish came true.

As a side note, in order to prevent him from turning back into a soulless flower, the witch froze Asriel’s regression into that form. He’s much more useful with hands, after all! It’s just a teeeeensy bit more added onto his debt. Really, miniscule. The years will fly by.

Inventory:
Clothing:
• One long sleeved, green jumper with yellow stripes
• One pair of pants (very warm and comfy, like hug)
Other:
• Golden flower seeds (some were stuck to his clothes and collected in the pockets, remnants of the short time he spent tending the flowers)
• One photo, slightly crinkled, of Asriel and his sibling.

Abilities: As a powered up soul-sucker god-modding angel of death, Asriel had a ton of cool powers and fighting abilities. However… this Asriel is taken post the release of all those souls. Powered down, he’s just a regular old monster kid.

It’s not exactly the most useful of skills, but Asriel is pretty darn good at pranking and tricking people. This is best evidenced by the true lab tapes, which show Asriel tricking Chara, of all people. He has to have a pretty convincing poker face to pull that off. Also, Asriel has at least basic cooking skills (as evidenced by baking a pie with Chara! Sure, it made dad sick, but only because Chara put buttercups in it)! So that’s pretty neat! ...Give him a break, he’s still growing up. He’ll find his feet and his skills as he gets older.

As an aside, I’d like to think that due to his previous use of SAVES, Asriel is more aware of when a SAVE is loaded. He wouldn’t always be able to tell if Frisk used them sparingly, but a lot? He’d definitely be more perceptive about that than a regular monster/person.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
• Kind & gentle - When the humans on the surface attack him, Asriel does not retaliate. He even fights for control of his body to stop Chara from attacking them. Post absorption of souls- when he is able to experience emotions once more- Asriel is shown to be a sensitive and inherently caring creature. This strong moral character will help him through tough times.
• Mature - For an eight year old, Asriel has seen a whole lot of the world and experienced things no eight year old should have to experience. With this history behind him, he’s picked up a lot of knowledge and maturity that kids his age don’t usually have.
• Empathetic - Asriel always tries to understand the other side of the story. Where others might be judgemental, Asriel can often sympathise. This will help him connect with people and make friends and allies.
• Responsible/dutiful - As a prince, Asriel would have been raised with the expectation he’d one day be king, so responsibility would be no stranger to him. He agrees to help Chara with the belief that it will help his people. He takes it upon himself to make up for his actions as a soulless flower, and uses his power to free all the monsters of the underground. He wants to help other people even when it means taking on a burden, and excluding himself from their ‘happy ending’.
• Loyal - Arguably to a fault. (“I said I’d never doubt you.”) When Asriel decides he’s on your side, he’s on your side until the end.
• Discerning - Even though his loyalty and familial bond tied him to Chara, Asriel was able to recognise that Chara “wasn’t really a great person.” In fact, his experience with Chara is what would have made him better at this- at looking past what he wants to see in a person.

• Susceptible to influence - Asriel isn’t gullible or naïve; he can spot a snake. However, if it’s someone he trusts or care about, and they have a good argument, or if he believes he’ll be helping people? Asriel can be talked into a lot.
• Anxiety over how he is viewed/perceived – Asriel cares a whole lot what other people think of him. Maybe too much. It can cloud his judgement and shape his actions.
• Traumatised - It’s not a stretch to assume that after the whole ‘becoming an angel of death and absorbing everyone’s souls’ thing- not to mention the god knows how many years spent as a soulless flower- Asriel is very touchy when it comes to certain subjects. He’s keeping secrets, and mentally, he’s not the healthiest kid around. Which leads into…
• Fragile - Don’t pick on him. Please don’t pick on him. Oh boy, you picked on him and he’s crying and you’re the worst EVER.
• LITERALLY A LITTLE KID - Asriel is only eight years old. He’s not physically strong at all, and despite his aforementioned maturity and past experiences, mentally he is still just a child.
• Poor self-perception - He blames himself for a lot, despite being soulless at the time.
